Typical situations

How Alok would approach it

Three everyday situations, and how a consultation would handle each one without breaking anything. They're illustrations, not client stories, and no result is promised.

The situation

Picture an owner-run electronics shop on a decent road. Good stock, fair prices, the same loyal customers for years, but fewer new faces walking in. Discounts and a new signboard haven't changed much, and someone in the family suggests getting the layout looked at.

What the plan shows

A plan like this often shows the same things: the cash counter in the north-east, an entrance in the south-west that feels closed from the street, and heavy stock boxes stacked in the south-east.

What Alok would suggest

Move the counter so the owner sits in the south-west facing the door. Clear the south-east of stock. Brighten the entrance with better lighting and a warmer colour. All of it can be done over a weekend by the shop's own staff, with nothing to buy from us.

Afterwards

The owner works through the list in order and messages on WhatsApp with questions along the way. What happens to footfall is not something anyone can promise, and Alok doesn't.

The situation

Think of a young family renting a two-bedroom apartment in Dubai. Nothing is wrong exactly, but nobody sleeps well and the home feels tense. The lease says no alterations, so anything structural is out of the question.

What the plan shows

Typical findings in a layout like this: a toilet in the north-east, the parents sleeping in the north-east bedroom rather than the south-west one, and the kitchen in the north-west.

What Alok would suggest

Swap the bedrooms so the parents use the south-west room. Keep the north-east toilet door closed and the room dry and uncluttered. Move heavy storage out of the north-east. Three changes, all reversible, none needing the landlord's permission.

Afterwards

The family makes the changes over a couple of weekends, with WhatsApp follow-up for the practical questions. How a home feels afterwards differs from family to family, and nothing is guaranteed.

The situation

Imagine a 15-person IT company in a leased office in Andheri. Deadlines slip, people leave, and the founder wonders if the layout is part of it. The landlord won't allow any construction.

What the plan shows

The founder's cabin is in the north-east, the sales desks face west and south, and the water dispenser sits in the south-east.

What Alok would suggest

Move the founder to the south-west corner facing north. Turn the sales desks to face north. Shift the dispenser to the north-east. Use the existing furniture, just placed differently.

Afterwards

The founder rearranges the seating over a weekend. Vastu is a traditional belief system and won't fix management problems on its own. Alok says that plainly on the first call.
